Social Media Toolkit for Governors Proposed Budget Reveal on January 10,2024

January 10th, Governor Newsom is expected to issue his economic predictions as part of his 2024-25 State Budget proposal (this deadline is set by the State Constitution). In mid-May, the Administration will issue a revised budget plan (the May Revise) that typically has a clearer picture of what budget will be enacted. The Legislature’s deadline to send a budget to Newsom is June 15 and the 2024-25 fiscal year starts July 1.

When Newsom delivers his announcement about his initial proposed 2024-25 State Budget, State Scientists will picket nearby in Sacramento (location and time to be announced soon) and take to social media to ensure the public, key decision-makers, and Governor Newsom know that the time is now to #ValueScientists!

When: Wednesday, January 10, 2023, various times, depending on in-person or virtual participation!

Where: In person in Sacramento (TBD, 2 hour picket) and online via social media!

The Action: Make some noise to call on this Administration to #ValueScientists! You can do so in-person in Sacramento and on social media. NOTE: Participation must be done on personal time.

Sign up here and commit to participating in this action.

Last year, Governor Newsom announced his budget press release only 3 days in advance, so be sure to look out for updates to the time and place!

If you’re not able to make it in person, please join the conversation by posting on social media at least once every hour from 8:00am – 4:00pm PST and amplifying the voices of other California State Scientists as we highlight the critical role California State Scientists play in tackling the global challenge of climate change, protecting the health of our communities, sustaining our agricultural industry, and beyond!
